DRAIN ON RESERVES
BRITAIN'S EFFORTS FAIL LONDON. Feb. 24. The Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, Lord Pakenham, speaking in the House of Lords, disclosed that the British Government’s efforts to reduce the drain on gold and dollar reserves had failed during January when the drain was £57.500,000 compared with £48,000 000 in December. Reuter’s financial eorresoondent says the figure is higher than expected and exnlains concern voiced in Britain and other parts of the sterling area.
