BUILDING CONTROL

FULL-TIME OFFICERS

Full-time district building controllers with duties distinct from those of district supervisors of the Housing Construction Division of the Ministry of works have been appointed as from yesterday in Auckland, Hamilton, Palmerston North, Wellington and Christchurch. In making this announcement. Mr. C. F Skinner, who is acting as Minister of Works in the absence of Mr. R. Semple, said his colleague had agreed to the appointments before his departure for Australia because of the greatly increased work and responsibilities in the control of building permits. “These appointments are in line with the Government’s policy of taking all possible steps to speed up the building of houses.’" said Mr. Skinner. "The demand for all sorts of building materials since the ivar has so far exceeded the supply that strict control of building permits has been essential to make the best use of the available materials and to ensure that as many people as possible are adequately housed as soon as possible. “In the circumstances district supervisors of the Housing Construction Division, who also have been handling the duties of district building controllers, have had an unenviable task. The time has arrived to separate the two jobs.”
