Croquet Gold Mallet Winner.
The New Zealand Croquet Association’s gold mallet competition was won in Nelson yesterday by Mrs. R. Gilbert, Nelson, who defeated Mrs. H. Howard, ■ Hinemoa, 26-22 in the final. There were 24 competitors from all parts of the Dominion. —P.A. PLUMBING MATERIALS SCARCE.— The twenty-first annual meeting of the New Zealand Plumbers Merchants’ Guild, held in New Plymouth, re-elected Mr A. C. Hinnman, Wellington, president. Speaking to the report, Mr Hinnman said that the supply position of plumbing materials was very difficult. The United Kingdom had so many calls on its. production that it could not meet New Zealand’s requirements. Supplies from Canada and the United States were restricted chiefly by lack of licenses Australia had an increased local demand. The slow turn-round of ships prevented the picking u» if aJJ tnat was offering.
