MORE VOLUNTEERS

EX-SERVICE SCHEME FARM LABOUR TEAMS Since the inception of the scheme the volunteer labour service organised by the Gisborne Home Servicemen's Association has performed a variety of tasks including potato digging, thistle cutting, weed spraying and orchard work. Today two teams were at work in the Manutuke area. The approach of Christmas has created some problems in the organising of personnel, states an association spokesman, and additional volunteers, either singly pr in groups, would be welcomed. It is again emphasised that, except at his or her request, no volunteer will be asked for more than one day. This course gives the teams little chance of seeing the final results of their labours, but is is appreciated that the continuous care of any particular crop or of livestock is beyond those who have only an occasional free Saturday. Recent news of the food situation in Britain will strengthen the universal desire to help. The food must be produced before it can be shipped. Those who have helped the scheme will have the satisfaction of knowing that they have materially assisted.
