DEATH IN PRISON
HUNGARIAN POLITICIAN ARRESTED BY RUSSIANS LONDON, Sept. 28. According to private reports from Budapest, Bela Kovacs, the former Secretary-General of the Hungarian Smallholders’ Party, died in a Sovietcontrolled military prison on September 18, says the Times diplomatic correspondent. In February the Russians arrested him as an “anti-State plotter.” This proved to be the beginning of the drive against the Nagy Government. When Hungarians took over the. prison after the ratification of the treaty Kovacs was missing. His wife took his food and clothing to the prison regularly until September 18 when she was told there was no further need to do so.
