HOGGET RATES FIRM
MORRINSVILLE SALE BEEF DEMAND STRONG Hoggets predominated in the fat sheep entry at the Morrinsville stock sale on Friday and they sold well up to late rates. Beef was in very strong demand and sold at advanced rates. Boner and store cows showed a slight rise. Empty Jersey heifers were freely competed for and pens of quality realised firm values. There was strong competition for a large entry of dairy cows and heifers, prices showing a rising tendency. Prices:— ..Sheep.—Medium fat wethers, to 51s 6d; prime fat hoggets, 45s to 50s 3d; tat hoggets. 40s to 42s 6d; lighter hoggets; 36s to 38s.
Cattle.—Heavy Friesian and Shorthorn cows, £l4 2s 6d to £l4 17s 6d; medium Shorthorn heifers, to £l2 16s; medium-weight Shorthorn cows, £9 10s to £lO 10s; fat young Jersey cows and heifers, £8 15s to £9 10s; boner cows, £5 10s to £7 ss; store Jersey cows, £4 to £5; 2-year empty Jersey heifers and young cows, £4 18s to £6 8s; good quality yearling Jersey heifers, £8 17s to £9 13s; other good heifers, smaller, £7 5s to £7 17s 6d.
Dairies.—Choice quality dairy heifers. c.t.p., £ls 10s to £l6 10s; good quality, £l4 to £ls; medium, £l2 to £l3; later calvers, £lO 10s to £ll 10s; close up cows, £l3 to £ls 10s; later calvers, £9 to £ll 10s.
