DUAL PURPOSE FILM

DETECTION OF DISEASE NEW YORK, Aug. 10. A plan by which heart disease and tuberculosis could be detected at the one X-ray screening was presented at the annual meeting of the National Tuberculosis Association at San Francisco. In a preliminary test at Los Angeles, examination of 70,000 miniature chest X-ray films taken primarily to detect tuberculosis, revealed about 1400 abnormally-shaped hearts. The apparatus has a sharp needle which is inserted under the skin and wired to a device equipped with a photographic screen and a loudspeaker.
