On the Move Mrs. C. Prebblo lias returned to bor borne in Hastings after a holiday in Gisborne. Mrs T. Adair, Stout street, and Mrs John Adair, iiavn returned to Gisborne by plane following a holiday in Auckland. Mr and Mrs C. tf. Parry, have returned from a tour north which included ii-sits to Kotorun, Hamilton and Auckland. Mrs. H. Kayes and her two children, Dickson street, left Gisborne, on Thursday by plane for Auckland, where they will make their home.

Airs T. A. X. Corson. Riverside road, today leaves Gisborne for a week-end visit to Auckland She will return on Monday, with her mother, Mrs 1. 0. Thomson, Hamilton.

In celebration of the three years successful operation of the National Party s tearooms, tin* voluntary helpers were enter* tinned to afternoon tea at tho rooms on Wednesday. , , Mr A. Blackburn spoke of the success of tho rooms and said that this was entirely due to tho voluntary helpers and that it was a striking fact that a number of tho helpers were the same ones who were at the rooms when they opened three years ago. Mrs A. F. Hall replied and a beautiful birthday cake presented by Messrs Findleys, Limited, was cut and distributed by Mrs G. Willson ns the most senior voluntary helper. Evening Gift Party

Three hostesses. Mesdames K. Roderick and D. Wiggins and Miss 0. Barnfather, accorded Miss Shirley Nowell a party at Loiv's reception rooms on Wednesday in view of her marriage today.

Games and competitions were a feature of the evening, many prizes being won, and items were given by Mesdames T. Hall. Kane and H. Ravonliill. After a tasty savoury supper numerous gifts were opened by tho bride-elect and her matron-of-honour, Mrs. B. Parker. Tho former wore a dainty gown of black sheer with insets of blue lace and Mrs. Parker was in a blue silk frock cut on fitting lines. Mrs. Roderick chose a black floral sheer, and Mrs. Wiggins woro nn attractive brown and green wool georgette. Miss Barnfather hnd chosen a model painted iTcpo-de-eliine in multi-coloured tonings. At the conclusion of the evening. Miss Nowell suitably thanked her hostesses and friends. Young Contingent Meets Again With double the number oi members as at tho inaugural mooting, tho Young Contingent of tho Victoria League’s second meeting this week was an encouraging one. Miss M. Greig, who was in tho chair suggested that a case of dripping be bought to augment the parcels for Britain, and this was agreed to by tho meeting. Tho business included a request by the chairman for two tins of food for parcels for Britain from members at the next meeting, and tho passing on of a request from tho senior branch asking members to donate a salt bag if possible as these helped in packing Christmas parcels for England. Members were advised that tho election of officers would, take place at the next meeting, on October 7 and after discussion, it was agreed that six committee members as well- as officers be elected. Mrs. lan Niven was placed in ebargo of a social on that night. An alphabetical method of selecting hostesses for the meetings was decided upon. Mesdames 0. Brittenden and N. Balfour and Miss B. Ball being appointed for the next meeting. Mrs J. Cranswick, of tho senior branch, demonstrated tho procedure for wrapping and sending literature to tho bnckblocks and lighthouses. It was agreed that five members bo appointed to wrap tho books at one meeting a month.

A pleasing feature of the meeting was the wrapping of 441 b weight of food parcels by members. A vote of thanks was proposed by tho acting secretary, Mrs N. Balfour, to Mrs Cranswick. Supper was dispensed by Mesdames I. Niven, 0. Salmon and A. Harper.

Mr ICeith Graham, late of Gisborne, and n pupil of Miss Bobbie Scott. gained first place (equal) out of 22 entrants in the open tap-dancing challenge cup at the Recentlyheld Wellington Competitions festival.

Farewell Afternoons Mrs. H. Kayes was farewelled this week by several of her friends before leaving for Auckland. Mrs. D. Dyer, Albert street, was joint hostess at her home with Mesdames G. C. Martin and W. Taylor ‘at an afternoon early in the week and there were 15 friends present. A presentation of flowers and a gift was made and the guest of honour wore I a navy blue ensemble. A presentation of ' bulbs was made nt this function to Mrs. Kayes. , Cheery Farewell Function The ballroom at '‘Ulverstonc.” the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. R. Egan, was the scene I of an enjoyable function last night when many | friends of Miss Merle Lynex, who is. shortly | leaving Gisborne, gathered to say good-bye j to her. j The function was a happy, informal, one j and there was modem and old-time dancing. | the music for which was played by Mr. A. i Pilkington. Mrs, Egan wore a green sheer frock, white sprigged. Following a delicious supper, Mr. Egan presented Miss Lynex with a handsome travelling case, wishing her success in her now position and expressing regret at her departure. The opportunity was taken also of saying "All Revoir” to Miss Shirley Ommulsen. who leaves Gisborne shortly, and a suitable pro- i sentation was made to her. Miss Lynex wore a lime green frock with * beaded trimmings. Miss Omundsen wore ;> yellow floral crepe with triple side drape m* the skirt. Majorities Recently Attained Tho Oddfellows’ IT nil. Mnngapapa, has beer the setting for a considerable number twenty-first birthday parties lately, and tlieiv were more this week. Miss Marjorio Mclntosh, Coleman road, in a pink frock with a lace top and taffeta skirt inset with four lace gores, received 140 of her friends to a dance there on Thursday, to celebrate her coming-of-age. Pink spring blossom decorated tho hall and daffodils the supper tables. Mrs A. Mclntosh, who assisted with tho reception of the guests was in n black frock piped with blue and a flat hustle effect of the back. Miss Lena Rum played for the dancing and at. a suitablo juncture tho birthday-cele-brant’s brother, Mr I. Mclntosh, presented her with a perspex key and the pink cake was cut to the accompaniment of musical honours.

Paper hats and streamers added to the generally festive air at the Oddfellows’ Hall on Tuesday when nearly 200 friends of Miss •Toyco Croskory, daughter of Mrs E. Croskevv, Grey street, celebrated her coming-of-ago with a dance She wore a lovely white taffeta neplumed frock with a red spray of flowers, and, following n buffet supper, was presented with tho traditional key and accorded musical honours after her brother, Mr Hilton Ooskrry. hnd proposed tho toast to his sister. Mrs Crosleery, who wore a royal blue silk velvet- bodice and floral skirt, was assisted in her duties ns hostess by Mrs R. Croskerv, jun.. who was in oyster satin worn with pink flowers. Also at the party were Misses Marjorie. Nola. and Muriel Croskerv, sisters of the birthday celebrant. Mrs J. Heaney supplied music for the dancing throughout a most enjoyable evening.
