DEATH IN LONDON

VETERINARY EXPERT (P.A.)_ WELLINGTON, Sept. 19 Advice has been received of the death in London of Colonel H. A. Reid, veterinary officer to the High Commissioner for New Zealand in London. Colonel Reid graduated from the London Veterinary College in 1900, joined the Department of Agriculture in New Zealand in 1902 under the late Dr, J. Gilruth and became a senior officer of the then new veterinary laboratory in Wallaceville in 1909 under Dr. C. J. Reakes. He remained there as officer-in-charge from 1910 until the outbreak of the First World War in which he became active as A.D.V.S. in New Zealand and later as D D.V.S. in France. After the war he settled at Wallaceville until 1922, when he resigned from the department to return to England. For some years after his resignation he was in business, and also acted as examiner for the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, but in 1934 he returned to New Zealand again and took up work at Wallaceville. He acted during this period as a member of the Stock Remedies Board. In 1936 he was appointed veterinary officer to the High Commissioner in London. He represented New Zealand on various international veterinary bodies and at international congresses in Europe. He leaves a wife and a married son, Mr J. V. Reid, Tawera, Longbush.

The death is announced at Avarua, Rarotonga, of Makea Nui Takau Ariki. widow _of the late Lieutenant-Colonel Te Whiti Love, first Maori Commander of the Maori Battalion. Makea Nui Takau Ariki. as Mrs Love, was wellknown in the North Island.
