ALEXANDRIA RIOTS

STUDENTS AND POLICE GUNS AND GRENADES USED TWO OFFICIALS KILLED LONDON. May 1. A police officer and a corporal were killed and 17 Alexandrian policemen injured during student riots in Alexandria this morning. A large number of students were also injured. The Exchange Telegraph correspondent says that demonstrations broke out following reports that the British did not want to evacuate Egypt. A communiaue issued by the Prime Minister, Sidky Pasha, described the situation in Alexandria as serious. He added that the students used stones and guns and at least two hand grenades against the police. The public prosecutor has been instructed to make an immediate on-the-spot investigation of the clash. The correspondent says that the students were held at bay in the university grounds all morning after attempting to march out and hold a demonstration. A member of the university faculty who escaped says the students captured two soldiers with rifles. A shot was fired shortly afterwards, killing a policeman in the street.
