Mr. M. J. Hurley, accountant in the Gisborne branch of the Bank of New South Wales, has been appointed manager of the Inglewood branch, and takes up his duties there shortly. Mr. W A. Mangin. of the Gisborne staff of the bank, will fill the vacancy caused by Mr. Hurley’s departure.
Mr. C. E. Peek who was recently appointed superintendent of child welfare in New Zealand, arrived at Gisborne last night from Wellington. The purpose of his visit is to meet local officials and others interested in child welfare work. Mr. Peek will leave tomorrow for Rotorua and Auckland.
Mr. and Mrs. G. Wildish. Auckland, arc spending a short holiday in Gisborne. Mr. Wildish, a former Mayor of Gisborne and a lifelong enthusiast in fire-fighting training and technique, will take the opportunity of attending the opening session in Gisborne of Ihe annual conference of the United Fire Brigades’ Association.
The Minister of Defence, Mr. F. Jones, announced yesterday that Mr. C. S. Wright, C. 8., director of the re-cently-formed Royal Naval scientific service and for many years director of scientific research at the Admiralty was expected Jo arrive in New Zealand to-day J'or consultation with the Naval Board and the Department of Scientific and Industrial’Research.
