“STORM PATROLS”
U.S. AIR SCOUT SERVICE (10 a.m.) WASHINGTON, Jan. 17.
As a result of the successful wartime aerial reconnaissance of Pacific typhoons, the Navy Department announced the establishment of a peacetime programme of tracking storms in the Pacific and Atlantic with specially trained and equipped squadrons.
Two squadrons, composed of 12 planes each, will operate in the Pacific and one squadron in the Atlantic. The programme will be closely co-ordinated with the Army and Weather Bureau.
