MURDER WAVE FEARED

LR.A. VIOLENCE IN EIRE INTERNMENT POWERS (10 a.m.) LONDON, July G. The Eire Prime Minister, Mr. de Valera, in the Dail, said he feared a recurrence of murders of police officers by the Irish Republican Army if the Government’s emergency powers were abolished. He was replying in the debate on the second reading of the Emergency Powers Bill in which the Government seeks to retain power of internment. He added that police officers , had been murdered in the past and if there was a danger of a new murder campaign those planning it should not be allowed liberty to do so. The bill was read a second time by 59 votes to 32.
