WAIROA NEWS

Members of the St. John Ambulance Brigade had a busy time on Saturday at the Rugby games in Wniroa. Oil one occasion one player from each side was being carried to th; side-line whilst the officers were attending to a third on the playing field. Fortunately, apart from one player, A. Archibald, who was suffering from concussion and was later removed to hospital, no serious casualty occurred. Rugby, results in Wairoa on Saturday were: —Seniors.—Athletic 9, Kaitawa nil; Nuhaka 15, Whnknki 12. Juniors. —Celtic 18, Kaitawa nil; Tapuae 24, Nuhaka 3. Corporal Stan Gollan, who recently returned from overseas, is spending portion of his furlough with relatives in Wairoa. —Mrs. W. Finucane, Wellington, is visiting Wairoa.--Mr. W. T. Bruce and daughter, Mrs. H. L. Spence, are visiting Wellington, being guests at Government House.—Mr. V. Parminter, Wellington, spent the week-end with his parents at Wairoa. —Mrs. D. Hill. Gisborne, is visiting Wairoa, her father, Mr. J. Corkill, being at present dangerously ill in the Wairoa Hospital.—Mr. A. Cable has returned to Waipukurau after visiting Mr. and Mrs. W. Hunt, Wairoa. The death occurred in Wairoa on Sunday of Mrs. Richard Thompson at the age of 67 y,ars,- Mrs. Thompson, who was well known in the district, in addition to leaving a sorrowing husband, leaves a large grownup family to .nourn their loss.
