YEARLING SALES FOXBRIDGE COLT I7SOGNS (P.A.) WELLINGTON. Jan. 20. Prices at the nineteenth annual national sale of thoroughbred yearlings at Trentham yesterday ranged from 1750giis. to SSgns. The top price was paid by Mr. Andrew Grant. Fairlie, South Canterbury, for a colt by Foxbridge from (lay Blonde. The stock of Foxbridge, the Dominion’s leading sire, excited keen competition. Seven colts and two fillies by him were sola for an aggregate of HCS.lgns.. an average of lOifigns. The stock of Foxbridge sold on the first day did not include those front the Trelawney Stud, where this stallion is located. Three colts and a filly by Coronach were sold for an iggfiregate of 32S0gns., an average of 3()7gns. The top price of these was 13l)0gns. for a filly from Amoretto, who was purchased by Mr. J. L,. Webb, Auckland. The first stock of the imported stallion Balloch, half-brother to Beau Pere and Mr. Standfast, sold well. They were two colts bred by Mr. A. Rowan, Auckland. One was bought, by Mr. C. N. Beasley, Wellington, for 1400gns. anil the other by Mr. F. Smith, Takanini. The top-priced filly of the sale van a grey by Nizami from White Gold, who was bought by Mr. C, C. Davis, Christchurch, for lSfiOgns. A filly by Foxbridge from April fool was secured by Mr. K. Austin, of Inglewood Stud, for iSOOgns.

Ninety-seven lots were sold for a total of 40,3071gn5.. an average of 41Ggns. The realisations on the first, day last year were 82 lots, which sold for 3f1,015gn5., an average of 475gns. The Melbourne trainer, S. Reid, bought a colt by Coronach from Kevinella for 850gns. and a colt, by Tiderare from Dryndes lor luOgns. Apart from these two sales, Australian interest was negligible. Eleven of the lots offered realised four figures, which must be regarded as a most satisfactory ■ opening of the sales. The weather was showery anil the sale was conducted under difficult conditions. This affected the attendance, which was below the average.
