THIRTY THOUSAND CLUB

Sir,—On reading the tetter written by Mr. B. S. Bree, general secretary of the Gisborne Thirty Thousand Club', I felt inclined to push it aside with the thought that yet another appeal was .being made to rny overworked pocket! But on reflection I must confess I had to read the letter again. Mr. Breeds right—the club has done wonders .for our community. Ido not know the inner workings, but I can not help noticing the results of tire labours of that, little band which has sc valiantly striven to help lis all to a fuller enjoyment of our surroundings. And the thought c-reeps in—what haye aop.many of us done—or failed to do—-to.. help , the splendid work along? Tq that little hand we owe SO' much —our. developing Miiriife Drive,: the magnificent camping ground (which is fast becoming a by-word in the Dominion) : the lovely approaches, to the Waikanae Park, the acquisition of the gaol site, and the development of the area ad: joining, on which I understand is to bo built si cabin camp. These are only a few of the ; things which seemingly have, resulted from ..the club’s continued battling., . . My fiat gpc3 off to the president and . secretary, mid io all and sundry of .that little group which is public-spirited, enough to expend time and energy—and often the contents of .overworked pockets no deeper than mine—to. benefit us one and all. For does not an attractive town: tpnd tq attract nil., types of traveller? And does not every visitor mqan in extra purr.’h.rd-ig of someone’s ends? Yy". Reflection has convinced me that the club is worthy of ..support, and .if it, has reached -the stage' where it is- in need Of 'n—.nragf-rm-nt. let us all show, at least a little- gratitude, f only, by sending .it , a ids 6d membership .fee—tl)U? . homing. alq«is the even mor.e beneficial..schemes,rwhich the club Iras in rtiihd, pi.it us firmly on the min'd—lJNE tif THE GRATEFUL
