LIEUT. G. F. MeHARDY 'Through the death .of SecondLieutenant G, F. McHardy, Waipawa, overseas, Hawke’s .Bay hqs Ipatjone.of its leading residents. Lieutenant McHprdy is reported to haYe been killed in action with the Second N.Z.E.F. in Italy., Born near Palmerston North 41 years ago, he was the elder son cf Mr. Percy McHardy, Havelock North, and a member of the family which presented McHardy Home to Napier and the Anzac Club, to Palmerston North. He was educated at Christ's College and subsequently went to Cambridge University, England. He was a keen athlete, and particularly excelled in boxing, gaining his .’Varsity Blue and captained the Cambridge University boxing ,team which visited South Africa. ' .TV.' A w ; Subsequent to his return to .New Zealand he took over the McHardy homestead at Aramoana station, -while his brother, Douglas, took over Ouepoto station.
