BEEF REMAINS FIRM 11>.A.) AUCKLAND, Dec. 7. There was a ready demand for ox hoof, which was penned Yi more than average numbers at the Westfield sale yesterday, and values remained firm at late rates. Last week's quotations were also maintained for small numbers of heifer beef, while prices for less than average numbers of cow heel improved on the previous sale. Values for an average yarding of slice], were firm and in some cases higher than la ~ week. Lambs sold readily at late quotations. Beef. Ox beef, which was penned in more than average numbers, was in ready demand. Yarding of heifer and cow beef were smaller, values for the latter improving. Extra choice ox sold to £2 5s per lOUlb., choice and prime £2 to £2 4s, ordinary £t 12s to £1 19s; extra prime heifer, to £2 2s, choice and prime £1 17s to £2 Is: prime cow, £1 12s, ordinary £1 8s to £1 11s. Extra heavy prime steers made from £l9 to £2O 15s, heavy £l7 to £lB 15s, medium £ls 7s Gd to £IG 15s, light £l3 to £ls ss, small and unfinished £lO 5s to .£l2 17s fid ; extra heavy prime cows and heifers, £ll 1 silo £l2 15s, heavy £lO to £ll 10s, medium £S 15s to £9 17s Gd, light £G 12s Gd to £S 12s Gd, small and unfinished £4 to £6 10s. Sheep.—Fully average numbers were penned and met a steady demand with values very firm and in some cases improving on last week’s sale. Lambs.—Average numbers of lambs sold readily at late quotations. Calves.—A good yarding of calves came forward and the demand was steady for extra choice runners and vealers. Values i for all other classes were lower. Unfinished, bucket-fed and Jersey calves were decidedly cheaper. Pigs.—The yarding of pigs was larger than last week, competition being brisk lor all classes of bacon. A number of sow: in pig realised late rates, but stores were again cheaper. Choppers sold from £2 Ids to £7; heavy prime baconers £5 3s to £5 9s: medium £4 10s to £5 Is; light, £4 to £1 9s; heavy porkers, £3 12s to £3 19s; medium £3 to £3 10s; light £2 12s to £2 18s; stores. C2 to £2 10s; slips, £1 8s to £2; wen tiers, 10s to £1 3s.
