ANNUAL INSPECTION

ST. JOHN AMBULANCE The annual inspection of all divisions of the St. John Ambulance Association was held in the Masonic Hall on Monday evening. All divisions in the district paraded and over 100 members were present. Tlie units were the Gisborne nursing division, the cadet nursing division, the ambulance section,- and the: Gisborne and' Turanganui cadet divisions. The inspection was carried out bv the Mayor, Mr. N. H, Bull, and Mr. S. Greenble, special assistant to the 'American Minister in New Zealand. Mr. Greonbie briefly addressed' the parade, which was under the control of the district officers, Mrs, E. W. McKenzie and Mr. C. E. Bickford. One of the features of the evening was a demonstration by the cadet team Which visited Hastings recently to compete for the Barden Cadet Cup. The team- gained second place' in the competition, which consisted' of dealing with a’patient with a broken leg; and rendering the first-aid treatment necessary. The Hawke’s Bay Crusaders won the ciin with 81 points, and Gisborne had 79 points. Third place was gained toy Hastings with 59. It was the first occasion that a Gisborne team had-competed 1 for arty of the StJohn Ambulance cups, competitions for which are held throughout New Zealand. On Monday night the cadets repeated their demonstration, which was greatly appreciated. Successful Cadet' Division The newly-formed Turanganui Cadet Ambulance Division of the St. John Ambulance' Brigade held' its first aid examination last'Saturday, when 12. members were examined. The standard of efficiency and'high'marks gained were commented upon., by the Divisional Superintendent A. Fearnley, the examiner, who congratulated them all on passing. The following candidates passed their preliminary first aid examination and were issued with uniforms: — Wesley CoxV Rodney Hollis, Noel Hudson, David Lamont, William Murray, John Shields, and Harry Smith. The annual first aid re- ' examination was successfully passed by Sergeant Hector McElney, Corporal Cyril Dunstan and Cadets Thomas Scott, Barry Tucker and Ramsay Tucker. Next Saturday the division is to attend an evening of gamds arranged by their officers, Cadet Superintendent Herbert Sheppard and Cadet Officer A. Dunstan, to be followed by supper provided by tile division. The attendance of cadets at the annual break-up on December 12 will mark the conclusion of a successful year.
