DETERM IN ED MEASURES LONDON. Dec. 5 For the first time during the fighting between the E.L.A.S. and E.D.E.S forces, near the main railway station, British Honey tanks this morning opened fire, says Reuter’s Athens correspondent. Severe fighting was still progressing late to-day between nembers o: the opposing parties in several districts. British troops finally entered the headquarters of the E.D.E.S. party, in the vicinity of the station, whereupon the E.L.A.S.-ites attacking the building withdrew. The Associated Press Athens correspondent says it was only a matter of minutes before the British troops who entered the building had disarmed the E.D.E.S.-ites, but crowds were yelling angrily that some were escaping across roofs. The E.D.E.S. eader, who was in the uniform of a colonel in the Greek Regular Army, said: “I surrender to the British but 'mild not surrender to 'the Communists!” Greek mountain brigades were also used to help quell and disarm E.L.A.S. bands who disobeyed General Scobie’s orders to remain in their districts. The employment of Greek soldiers suggests that determined measures are being taken as it was earlier stated Greeks would not be used against Greeks until necessary.
