WANT OF JURISDICTION Two charges of knowingly comnjitting an act likely to lead to the infection (of another person with an infectious disease, brought against Whare Grace, aged 19, labourer, were dismissed for want ol' jurisdiction bv Mr. E. L. Walton. S.M., in the Gisborne Magistrate’s Cour yesterday. The accused had pleaded guilty to both charges and elected to be dealt with summarily. Mr. G. J. Jeune represented the accused. Detective Sergeant. R. IT. Waterson stated that the accused had been undergoing treatment for two years and during that time had come in contact with two girls and in consequence the charges were made for alleged offences that took place at the end of last year. The accused had not been in trouble before and was a good worker. Mr. Walton said that the charges were for offences alleged to have occurred 10 or 11 months ago. ’He was empowered to deal with an offender for charges laid within six months of Hie alleged offence. As both the charges before him were for alleged offences over six months ago he could not convict, and accordingly he would dismiss the charges for want of jurisdiction. A further charge, that of unlawful carnal knowledge, was dismissed for lack cf prosecution.
