DECENTRALISATION AIM EXAMINATION IN VIEW (P.A.) OAMARU. Oct. 30 The Government’s decision to sef up a decentralisation sub-committcc of the Industrial Development Committee, which began its work recently, was announced to-day by the Hon. A. H. Nordmeyer, actiiig-Minis-ter of Industries and Commerce. The sub-committee is to consist of five members representing various interests. “The Government has always favoured a policy of decentralisatior of industry wherever this is reasonably possible.” said the Minister. “P is generally accepted that this Dominion should avoid the creation of unduly large industrial centres with their concomitant evils, which have been only too patent in the larger industrial countries overseas. However, there are numerous problems associated with the setting up o’ certain industries in the smaller centres, and. it is to examine these problems and consider detailed proposals for effective decentralisat.io’that the Government has decided tc appoint a sub-committee within the organisation for national development.” Discussing the personnel of the Droposed sub-committee, the Minister -aid that for the present it would consist of Mr. Clyde Carr. M.P., as chairman, and representatives of the Deoartment of Industries and Commerce. the New'Zealand Manufacturers’ Federation. Ihe Federation of Labour, and the Municipal'--"Associa-tion of New Zealand. The last three organisations, ho added, already had been asked to nominate their representatives and it was expected tha* all the nominations would,be. received and the committee functioning some time next month.
