The first half was fairly even, both sides attacking in turn. Flying Officer G. Hewitt and Flight Lieutenant. K. Grant each scored fine tries, giving the New Zealanders a one-point lead at half-time. The Wasps then obtained a field goal, two unconverted and one converted tries. The Now Zealanders fought hard to overtake this lead, but the Wasps’ defence was very sound. Flying Odicer A. Hayden finally forced his way across for a try which was not converted.
