OBITUARY
MISS KATHLEEN DAVIES < p.A.) WELLINGTON, Oct. 28. The death occurred to-day of Miss Kathleen Davies, who served as a nurse in Egypt and England in the last war and was awarded the Rosal Red Cross Medal. Afterwards she became matron o! the Bowen Street Hospital, Wellington, retiring a number of years ago. Later she became a victim of rheumatoid arthritis and spent,a number of years abroad attempting to get better, and for a number of years following her return was confined to bed. Captain Davies, marine superintendent, Auckland, is a brother, as is also Mr. A. C. Davies, of the same city. MR. CHARLES LUCAS (9 a.m.) SYDNEY, Oct. 30. A former well-known figure in the boxing world as a promoter and manager, Mr. Charles Lucas, has died at the military hospital, aged 54. lie had been in ill-health for some time. It was mainly because of Mr. Lucas’ elforts some years ago that Australia' saw the world’s leading borers. Mr. Lucas arranged some outstanding matches for Australian title-holders, Jack Carrol and Ron Richards. Among the overseas boxers he brought to Australia were the former world’s champions. Bep Van Kalveran, Gus Lcsnevich, Issy Janazzo, Atilio Snbatino, and Jackie Wilson.
