GERMANS IN GREECE TROOPS’ PREDICAMENT AEGEAN ISLES CUT OFF LONDON. Oct. 27 It is officially stated at Allie. Headquarters, Mediterranean, tha'i the Germans who left Athens a fortnight ago are desperately attempting to join up with the forces in the Salonika area. If they accomplish. this without considerable loss, there will be a force of several thousand ir, northern Greece, but the position oi both forces becomes more nreca reu . daily, because the Allied bombers jpe Partisans are cutting the overstrainer railways and roads. If the Partisan? succeed in cutting the escape routes, considerable German forces will be cut off in the north. The Germans have almost no prospect of saving the forces in Crete estimated at 14,000. Rhodes is estimated to have 4000, and forces esti mated at 5000 are on the other Aegean Islands. German aircra r " based on Salonika are trying tc rescue the trapped garrispns in the Dodecanese, but the x\llied planer hamper their efforts.
