ARAKAN ADVANCES
BRITISH IN BURMA CAM PA IGnTcASUA LTIRS (9 a.m.) RUGBY, Oct. 29. The British advances in northern Arakan continue, states a South-east Asia communique. Extensive patrolling continues in various sectors. A Colombo message says it is officially announced that the British Army casualties in the battle from October 15, 1943, the beginning of the Burma campaign, to the end of September of this year, total 27,103. This includes battle casualties suffered by part of the Third Indian Division (Chindits) and by the 36th British Division until they passed t'o General Stilwell’s command. The total includes 5567 British Indians and Africans killed, 1(1,848 wounded and 2693 missing.
The 300th South-East Asia communique has little to report. No major change is reported from the Fifth Indian Division front on the Tiddim - Fort White road. Patrol activity continues in Arakan and northern Burma. Widespread air activity has been maintained against the enemy. One Allied aircraft is missing.
