Maize for Green Feed On behalf of the maize-growers of this district. Mr. C. 11. Cooper last week waited on the Minister of Agriculture, the I;Ion. B. Roberts, in Wellington and put before him the matter of the supply of seed of maize used in green-iced production for dairy stock. Tie pointed out that this typo of feeding was essential on many dairy farms, and that maintenance of the production, of the seed types most favourable for green fodder was an important factor in keeping up the output of the dairy herds. Owing to a Price Control order, said Mr. Cooper, the growers were receiving only 3d per bushel premium on the seed, instead of the 6d per bushel which they held Ihev were entitled to and t'iis was likely to have the effect of decreasing production of the seed. The Minister promised to take up the .matter of having the full R d ■->- Ivchri rreminm paid on this type of seed, and also agreed that o’roducl.ton would be hindered if seed was rationed to merchants. Ho was in full sympathy with Mr. Cooper's view that genuine buyers should be able to get their full renuirements. and that the operation of Ihe Maize Marketing Committee shoffid not interfere with those requirements.
