P.B. Lime Production

During his visit to Wellington last week, for a meeting of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union executive. Mr. C. H. Cooper, president of the Poverty Bay union, made representations to the Minister of Agriculture, the Hon. B. Roberts, in reference to production of lime in the Gisborne district. He put forward to the Minister the advantage of having a district quarry capable of supplying local requirements, as against the costly haulage of lime from other districts. After discussion, the Minister expressed his opinion that probablv the Public Works Department’s quarry in the Gisborne district could be leased to the proposed new operating company, at a peppercorn rental, to be available as a stand •• n-a when the present quarry site is worked out.
