30,000 CLUB’S DECISION

It was decided by the executive committee of the Gisborne ThirtyThousand Club, at its latest meeting not to attempt any function this year on November 5 in the way of Guy Fawkes celebrations, due to the lighting restrictions on the beach. Arrangements were put in hand for a dance in the City Hall on New Year’s Eve. One of the few unsightly spots in Gisborne, the Waikanae Creek, was still receiving the club’s Attention, it was stated. The club was devoting timd to the cleaning up of the creek’s banks. An inter-house sports carnival, the biggest yet staged in Gisborne, Mr. K. R. Waite .reported, would be fairly certain to be held early in 1944. During the. m’eetirig the iriter-house sports, emergency, Marine drive tentertiriment, Waikanae Stream, railway and Cox Park, forestry arid publicity ,and records sub-committees tabled reports of their recent activities. Three new members, Messrs. D. Kinder, H. L. Le Bas and T. Martin, were welcomed by the chairman. Those present at the meeting were: Messrs. Jas. Chrisp, chaifhian, A. J. Cox, H. L. Primrose, K..R. Waite, I. J. QUigley, D. Kinder. J. H. Hall, H. H. De Costa, T. Martin, H. B. Tyerman, W.. E. Mcllwairie, W.. M. Jenkins, H. L. Le Bas, R. Morse, M. J. White, and B. S. Bree, hon. secretary.
