PRISONERS TREATED WELL TRANSIT CAMP BAD (10.30 a.m.) LONDON, March 23. “The British prisonei's exchanged for Italians at Mersin, Turkey, are unanimous that the Italians are short of food and war weary, but considering these shortages and other difficulties they tried to treat the prisoners well,” says the Daily Mail correspondent at Mersin. He added that the prisoners said the black spot was the transit camp at Bari where 2000 men, half starved, were huddled four in four-posted beds. The sick were dying for want of attention and equipment. The Swiss Red Cross delegates are investigating the conditions. After the bombing of the Talma on route from Port Said, the Italian officer prisoners apologised through an interpreter to her skipper on behalf of the airmen responsible. The skipper accepted the apology.
