OBITUARY
MR. J. A. MACFARLANE
The death of Mr. John Archibald Maefarlarie occurred at Auckland yesterday after a short illness.' 1 Mr. IVlacfarlane was horn in Tiree, Scotland, and came to New Zealand as a young man. arid immediately took up farming in Hawke’s Bay.' He controlled very large areas on hchalf of the late Mr. G- P. Donelly and'Sir Douglas McLean until, upon the sub-division of the Maraekakalio •Estate, he acquired the well-known Den Lomond station. He successfully fanned that lrind and founded the Well-known Ben Lomond AberdeeriA.ngus cattle stud. Animals from there found a ready salp all over Australasia and they,took ninny prizes 'in show rings in NriW Zealand arid Australia. He ultimately •sold that station and developed as a part-owner an area at Mokai, hear Taupo, and at Putaruru, where his energies were d6vqted during the last, few years. At one time he apanaged a .large sugar cane farm and factory in North Queensland. A keen sheepfarmer, interested in all stud stock, arid a great supporter of agricultural and pastoral shows, lie was vice-president of the Hawke’s Bay Show. He died at the age of 78, and leaves surviving him three 1 daughters, one of whom is Mrs. H. D. Ohrisp, of Gisborne.
MR. EDWARD WYLDS
The death of Mr. Edward Wylds, aged .65, at the Cook Hospital early this morning, removes one who was a resident of this district l'or iriany years. Mr. Wylds was a South African war veteran, enlisting at Palmerston North and later served in the Great War. A service will be held in Cochrane’s chapel at 2.30 p.m. to-mor-row, after which the funeral will leave for the soldiers’ plot at the Taruheru cemetery. ’
