Cox, who intends'presenting ;t to the town for incorporation in a general scheme of beautification of that area, . , tw .'V" . For some time the Gisborne Thirty Thousand Club' 'has been 1 developing plans for the beautification .of the Waikanae Creek' in order to remove its unsightly appearance, and suggestions have been made, that .this work should be carried on .to' traverse,,the whole length of the creek up to as far as the Park Domain, which could be linked to this proposal.'. , L- v> In the meantime, work is to be concentrated on the .railway station area, which npw has become/the front door to., Gisborne. The Thirty 'Thousand Club’s efforts pave been , directed .towards/. developing the whole area on both sides of the creek extending both east and west of Grey street. The land purchased by Mr. Cox includes swamp area on the, town bank of the'Waikanae Creek on both sises of . Grey /street arid a portion of land fronting Kahutia street, and Mr. Cox intends presenting the area to the town to be developed into gardens and .playgrounds.' , V'-’ " 1 This gift will fill a substantial -portion of the club’s scheirie for that area, but the club hopes that'other publicspirited persons will- follow [h Mr. Cox’s example-in' order* to allow the club to develop its full plans for the railway station section of the scheme on the whole of the block bounded by Grey, Kahutia ana Bright streets. The plan the club has in mind for this block , will synchronise with the beautified area on ..the, Waikgnae Beach, and the town’s front door will be given a worthy., setting. .The scheme is an ambitious one, but Mr. Cox and the Thirty-Thousand Club are confident . that" the public will approve of the work, and_ will give all the assistance ' possible.
