INDIAN SIKH’S CALL VIOLENCE CONDEMNED l DISORDERS CONTINUE (10 am.) LONDON, Sept. 27. Speaking at the All-India Conference, Mr. Tarasingh Sikh, the leader, condemned acts of violence and appealed to Indians to stop them. “Britain cannot entrust to India full military responsibility during the war,” he said. “Britain must concehtrate on winning the war. You must trust Britain.” A message from Benares states that 64 persons convicted of looting and arson, were sentenced to six years’ rigorous imprisonment. A collective fine of 19,000 rupees has been imposed on 79 villages in the Benares district. Four policemen were stabbed in Bombay during a demonstration. The police dispersed with lathis a number of processions near schools. Many colleges have closed. The police at Allahabad fired on a crowd throwing stones, leading to the Allahabad Hindus sending a deputation to a magistrate pointing out that collective fines penalised the community for the conduct of a few hooligans. A message from Karachi says that Mr. Allah Bakhah, Premier of Sind, informed the Viceroy, Lord Linlithgow, that he renounced the titles of Khan Bahadur and the Order of the British Empire as a protest against Britain’s Imperialistic hold on India.
