TRANSPORT LICENSES

EAST COAST SERVICES Several decisions were reserved by the No. 2 Transport Licensing Authority, Mr. J. P. O. Skoglund, at a sitting in Gisborne yesterday. The authority stressed the necessity of the conservation of petrol and tyres, and said that where one service could be replaced by another he would have to consider cancelling one of the licenses for the duration of the war. Where a license had been suspended, however, the licensee’s interests would be protected. An application of a passenger service license by the East Coast Motor Service was granted. Goods traffic licenses, with amendments, were renewed iri the case of A. W. Dever, and Coutts and Jamison. Applications for renewals by McIntosh and Brooking. Limited, C. W. Kirk, Clare and Clare, and the' Tolaga Bay Co-operative Dairy Company, were reserved. Opposition to the renewal of the Tolaga Bay Dairy Company’s license was raised 1 by Amalgamated Transport (Mr. D. E. Chrisp). The view held by the opposing company was that rubber and petrol would be saved if the dairy company did not convey their.own butter and goods. For the Tolaga Bay Dairy Company Mr. T. A. Coleman said that no unnecessary trips to Gisborne were made, and that Amalgamated Transport Were only endeavouring to obtain more business for themselves.
