FRIENDLY SOCIETIES

MANCHESTER UNITY The Manchester Unity Oddfellows Loyal Gisborne Lodge, 6087, met last night, Mr. E. W. Grigg, 1.P.N.G., presiding. The secretary, Mr. G. H. Ambridge, P.D.G.M., reported that although only one member was in hospital, more than the usual number were on the sick list, the total eligible for sick pay amounting to 8 per cent of the total membership. One of the members had been receiving sick pay since 1915, and in that time received £?49. A report was submitted on a recent meeting of the Past Grands’ Lodge, at which there was a good attendance and when Officers were installed arid degrees conferred. The district grand master, Mr. R. F. Newton, had expressed a desire to visit Gisborne in October and to attend a meeting of the Past Grand Lodge, which had arranged to call a meeting for such an occasion. Teams were selected as follows for to-morrow’s friendly societies’ indoor bowls tournament:—A Team: Miss J. Elliott, C. Mori, T. J. Dunstan, P. O. Niven. B Team: Miss J. McMath, K. R'. Ellmers, Miss A. Korte, V. B. Murray." C Team: Miss E. Cousins, Mrs. Elliott, L. Mills, V. C. Rothwell. Rebekah Lodge At the fortnightly meeting of the Gisborne Rebekah Lodge, held in the Oddfellows’ Hall, Derby street, Sister Kelly, N.G., presided over a good attendance of members. All sick members were reported to be doing well. Sister Cornelius was back after her illness. A vote of condolence Was passed with Sister Clay in the loss of ■her nephew and with Mr. Norman in his recent loss. Many letters were received from the soldiers overseas and from Sister Iris Somervell. All thanked members for the parcels they had received and said how they appreciated the parcels from home. Greetings were received from Messrs Corbett and Kennedy, who had been visiting Gisborne recently. It was agreed that next lodge night would be a social evening for members and friends.
