SUPPLIES BY AIR

REFUGEES IN BURMA MAROONED PARTY SAVED (2 p.m.) LONDON, July 13. Searching through the monsoonal storms for a missing caravan of refugees from Burma, a plane saw the message, “one thousand starving,” spelled out in empty bully-beef tins. The Daily Mail’s Assam correspondent, reporting this, adds that the tins were laid out on the grass of a tiny clearing in the hills in northern Burma. The refugees were marooned between flood waters and impassable jungle. A big troop-carrying plane flew to the encampment and dropped a ton of food. Next morning, another heavy plane dropped more food. The correspondent says that the Royal Air Force is doing great work to save the evacuees who are still trying to get out of Burma. They are dropping food, clothing, soap and books. The Royal Air Force and United States airmen have dropped more than 500,0001 b. of food to refugees in Burma.
