XMAS EVE PRESENT

BLINDING DUSTSTORM NEW ZEALAND DIVISION (N.Z.E.F. Official War Correspondent.) (Reed. Dec. 31, 9 a.m.) WESTERN DESERT, Xmas Eve. This Christmas Eve has produced Egypt’s Christmas present to the New fjaaland Division, a blinding duststorm. Outside my dug-out the wind whistles and whines, and the Mediterranean flashes itself in silvery foam against the rocks. *lt is bitterly cold, but through the dust there are occasional glimpses of the moon. It has been a good day for those of the division who are back, for parcels, beer, and remittances have arrived. Down in the dug-outs this is a place of comparative safety for the New Zealand Division to celebrate Christmas. The unit to which I am attached had the Kiwi concert party for its Christmas Eve celebration, the members of the concert party' having worked heroically through dust-storms all day to erect their tent and prepare the lighting effects. Smiles and chuckles from the General Staff officers and cheers and whistling from the men showed the real appreciation of the concert, which in recent months has developed into a revue to compare with anything of the type in the Middle East.
