Miss Dorothy Davys, Clyde road. Wairoa, has been recommended by the St. John Nursing Division for overseas service as a member of the Voluntary Aid Detachment. Miss Davys, who has been a member ol the nursing profession for two years, is well known in Wairoa tennis circles.
Mr. C. R. Sainsbury, Wairoa, is visiting Gisborne on Hawke’s Bay Education Board business.
A gathering of the court staff, justices of the peace, the legal fraternity and the press took place in Wairoa last night, when presentations were made to Constables J. McAlpine and A. McLellan, who have been transferred to other stations. There were several speakers who referred to the guests’ extreme courtesy and efficiency and suitable parting gifts were presented. The speakers were Sergeant L. T. Moore, Messrs. J. R. Gillespie, H. G. Jam'bson, J. Corkill. C. R. Sainsbury, G. M. O'Malley, C. V. Chamberlain, F. IT. Jones, M. H. Tcnkinson, E. R. Baker, W. G. Brownlie, Constables D. Ross and W, Houston, and Mr. R. H. Ingoe.
