AID SUSPENDED
VICHY NORTH AFRICA AMERICAN INQUIRIES WEYGAND CASE SEQUEL (Elee. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Reed. Nov. 21, 3 p.m.) WASHINGTON, Nov. 20. The State Department has announced that the United States Government lias suspended all plans for economic assistance to French North Africa, and is reviewing the entire relationship with the Vichy French Government because it acquiesced with Hitler’s express demand for the removal of General Weygand as the DelegateGeneral in Africa, thus permitting German control over French authority entirely outside the armistice provisions. The announcement emphasised that the removal of General Weygand was an ominous development of the growing Franco-German collaboration which might be seriously detrimental to American interests. The United States Government would await action by the French and Germans before determining the future course.
