MILK IN BRITAIN
PRIORITY IN SUPPLY MOTHERS AND CHILDREN (Reed. Nov. 22, 9 a.m.) LONDON, Nov. 20. The Ministry of Food has given instructions that dairymen must not supply adults with more than a quart of fresh milk weekly. Nursing mothers, expectant mothers, children and invalids will get priority in supply which, according to the scientific advisers of the Ministry of Food, Lord Woolston, is the minimum necessary for further growth or the restoration of health. The supply may not permit a quart for each non-priority adult throughout the country, but the Ministry is making an effort to secure an equal distribution. Lord Woolton said: “New Zealand and America are sending millions of tins of condensed milk and, with our own reserves, we will be able to supply 100,000,000 gallons of fresh, condensed and dried milk monthly throughout the winter. This far 2xceeds the largest consumption known in the United Kingdom.”
