Roofing Iron Shortage

The fact that there exists an acute shortage of roofing iron was illustrated when a small advertisement inserted in an Auckland newspaper giving particulars of a number of sheets of roofing iron brought hundreds of inquiries. Quite apart from the numerous requests for an immediate sale waiting his arrival home from work, the advertiser said his telephone rang almost continuously throughout the evening. Some intending purchasers offered exorbitant prices for the iron, while others tbld pitiful tales of leaking roofs. However, it was a case of “first in, first served,” said the advertiser, and the material was sold early* in the evening.
