TROOPS FROM BRITAIN MIDDLE EAST WARFARE (Reed. Aug. 14, 2.30 p.m.) SIMLA, Aug.' 13. “The British losses in tiie Middle East have been higher than those of India. Australia, arid New Zealand, both in actual number and in the proportion of the troops engaged,” said the Commander-in-Chief in India, general Sir Archibald Wavefl, in a Droadcast address He said he mentioned the fact to correct any wrong impression that might exist. Nearly 750,000 Indians were under arms and recruits were flowing in as fast as the army could provide for them. General Wavell paid a tribute to the part taken by Indian troops in the Middle East campaign, where their casualties were 15 per cent of the total Imperial forces. Future efforts, he said, must continue to prevent the enemy getting within striking distance of India.
