£looo Damages Awarded
A sum of £IOOO general damages •was awarded Ann Guthrie, a Hastings school teacher, in the Supreme Court in Napier. Special damages totalling £156 5s 9d had been agreed upon by both parties. The defendant was a motor-cyclist, Herbert Moore Carpenter, with whom plaintiff was involved in a collision in Selwood road, Hastings. In summing up, His Honour commented that there was no evidence to show that defendant was travelling too fast. The essence of the parties’ evidence seemed to be that each alleged the other was in a wrong position.
