NANKING BOMBING
WANG’S PAPER OFFICES DESTRUCTION OF PLANT (Reed. Aug. 11, 9 a.m.) NEW YORK, Aug. 10. The Shanghai correspondent of the United Press of America says that a huge incendiary bomb yesterday set fire -to a five-floor buiiding housing Mr. Wang Ching Wei's Nanking official organ, the Central China Daily News. The bombing coincided with tin anniversary of the outbreak of fighting between Japanese and Chinese troops in the Shanghai area in 1937, and occurred while Shanghai was filled with troops patrolling to prevent anniversary outbreaks. All the available fire-fighting apparatus was summoned, but the flames swept through the building. The fire gutted the building and destroyed the paper stocks and printing plant. Consequently the publication of the paper is suspended temporarily. A preliminary investigation showed that the bombs were set in the building. The printing foreman and circulation manager were injured.
