Fourth Grade. —Marist 11. High School S; Old Boys A w.o. Old Boys B. Speedy Gisborne Backs ‘"Tin- speedy Gisborne back line and some excellent loose forward rushes on both sides had Hie crowd on its feet on numerous occasions in the Gisborne-Hustings school match. The score of three-all at halftime indicated well the trend of the play ajid U was only the determined resistance of the Gisborne team as a whole that kept down the score. rf Soon after the start of the game the Gisborne centre. Martin, opened the scoring with a good run and just before the spell It, Davis finished off a series of attacks by Hastings to even up the account. Hi ley replaced Wilson in the visiting team when they returned to the field. Not long after play was carried into Hustings’ territory and B. Minalc, the Gisborne half-back, dived over to. put his aide in the lead again. Then Martin goaled me only penalty of the match, although there Were several chances. The goalflicking generally was poor. Coming into the attack again. Hastings were perilously close to the Gisborne line and Puriri, the visiting half-back, dummied liis way across to make the score nine-six in Gisborne’s favour. Turnbull was the next Gisborne scorer after a splendid lone dash, and R. Bull opened up an attack a little later for Martin to dive across again to bring the final score to 15-six in Gisborne’s favour. There were several changes In the last few minutes. Wilson suffered a leg injury in the Gisborne team being replaced by Falconer. W. Panckhurst, sou of C. D. Panckhurst, formerly well known in Gisborne Rugby as a Bay representative of merit, came into collision with Bull and was carried off the field suffering from slight concussion. He was replaced by Elliott. The best forward of the day was Turnbull. who set a fine example to the Gisborne pack, and he was backed up in his loose-work by Bull and Wilson. Stubbings and llavis also worked well. In the Gisborne back line S. Wills gave a very steady exhibition and was seldom out of place. However, he had the full support of the rearguard and Monk, Martin, Thompson, Ria and Sniale showed their opposite numbers in the Hastings team the way- in attack and defence. Hastings were given their- full share of the ball by the consistently good hooking of Caihpbeil. As a pack the visitors probably had a slight edge on Gisborne. In the back line, the half-back, Puriri, was (full of vim arid Liley was also sound. Mr. A. E. Ingram was the referee. ■t Junior Grade Old Boys 14 (L. Baty, two tries, R.
