Mr. C. L. Carr, Wairoa, has returned from a visit to Pahiatua and Wellington.
Members of the Herald staff met yesterday afternoon to farewell Mr. A. E. Rattray, who is leaving to live in Wellington, and presented him with a bedroom clock. In making the presentation, the “father” of the chapel, Mr. H. J. Toye, mentioned the pleasant associations with Mr. Rattray during the two years he had been with the staff. Lieutenant-Commander C. W. M. Vereker, R.N., has been appointed to H.M.S. Leander in continuation as an executive officer on relief, as navigating officer, to continue in the acting rank of commander, according to a Gazette notice issued on Thursday. Lieutenant-Commander F. M. Beasley, R.N., lent to the New Zealand naval forces, is gazetted as staff officer (intelligence), Wellington.
