CHILD ROAD SAFETY
PART PLAYED BY A.A. The action of the Government in taking all the credit for sponsoring road safety among children attending schools was taken exception to by the chairman, Mr. F. Tolerton, at a recent meeting of the Gisborne advisory committee of the Automobile Association (Auckland). Members agreed that in the Gisborne district, where they had seen the results of the association’s organisation, the resident patrol, Mr. G. V. Merton, had visited all the schools to give safety talks to the children and in many cases the schools had adopted the safety patrol system that was inaugurated by the association. The cost of uniforms and badges for the child patrols also was met out of the association’s funds. After a full discussion on the matter, which was considered an important feature of the work of the A.A., it was decided to take no further action. However, it was treated as a matter that had to be ventilated.
