BARTLETTS NEWS

HOME GUARD TRAINING (Herald Correspondent.) A parade of members of the Muriwai Home Guard resident in the railway camps was held in the Y.M.C.A. Hall in Bartletts on Tuesday night, Lieut. G. W. King being in command. The specialist groups studying firstaid and signalling received further Instruction, and keen interest was shown by all attending. First-aid work, was directed by Corporal L. C. Ching, while signalling practice was carried out under the leadership of Lieut. King, who demonstrated the use of the Morse key to familiarise the signallers with its operation. The next parade which members will attend is n full day parade for the whole unit to be held at Muriwai on Sunday. The next night parade at Bartletts is scheduled for Wednesday of next week, when all members of the unit living in the railway camps are to attend. At this parade Sergeant C. J. Cox, Muriwai, will be present to deliver a revisionary lecture on first-aid work, of which every Guardsman must have an elementary working knowledge.

Mr. W. Macky, Gisborne, was the guest of Mr. and Mrs. W. 1-libberd for the week-end.—Mr. Smith spent the week-end at his home at Bartletts. — Sapper R. H. Pearson, Trentham military camp, is spending his leave at his home at Bartletts.—Mr. F. Hutchins, Tuai, spent the week-end with friends at Bartletts.
