18,000 GERMAN DEAD
LOSS OF 600 PLANES (Reed. June 3. 2 p.m.) LONDON, June 2. The Daily Express says it, is unofficially estimated that 18,000 Germans were killed in Crete and that 600 German planes were destroyed. A German communique says that Crete is free of the enemy and the fighting is over. German alpine troops northwards of Sphakia defeated the remnants of the British forces and captured 3000 prisoners.
