DEATH AT NINETY
WAIROA RESIDENT (Special to the Herald.) WAIROA, this day. The death occurred at his residence, Marine parade, Wairoa, on. Friday of Mr. John William Cowling Swain at the age of 90 years. Mr. Swain, who was born in Yorkshire, England, came to New Zealand in 1908 and was engaged throughout practically the whole of his working life in the woollen mills business. He took a keen interest both in cricket and football, playing the former game for some years. Mrs. Swain predeceased him in 1938. Mr. Swain is survived by four daughters and one son—Mrs. P. Eddy, Napier, Mrs. A. 11. H. Unwin, Frasertown, Miss E. Swain, Napier, and Miss D. Swain, Wairoa, and Mr. J. Swain. Napier. Mr. Swain, jim.-, is a wellknown ex-All Black and Hawke’s Bay football player. The funeral took place yesterday at the Wairoa cemetery after a short service in St. Andrew’s Church.
